From An Educator’s Perspective

To read about the impact of the program from an educator’s perspective – Ram Sundaram – a Teach For India Teaching Fellow wrote the following letter to Crossover at the completion of the 2013 academy.

TFI Fellow

Dear Crossover,

I am yet to recover from the wave that hit me and my kids in the last two weeks. Days were long, meaningful and in some sense, complete.

Learning was the norm and we learnt beyond the classroom and beyond what the classroom can teach.

When I started my fellowship, I drafted a huge list of things that I wanted for my kids, some tangible and some intangible. I didn’t however think of ways and means to get started to check everything off this mental wishlist I had created. 10 days with Crossover has given me a clear head-start with many of the values, skills, thought processes and incentives that featured on my list. To respond positively to a plea, is in itself a deed that is uncommon. But taking the initiative to give on one’s own and to give relentlessly is beyond human. And by giving, I mean giving in entirety, giving your valuable time, your knowledge, your patience (at the cost of your own health) and all those exciting goodies. I owe it to you for all the giving and above all, inspiring me by being the change-makers on and off the court.

It wasn’t just my pleasure to have spent quality time with you, but it was an exercise that helped me restore faith in mankind. Looking forward to meeting you next year as well. Please convey my deepest and most sincere gratitude to every single person who stood by the Hoops Creating Hope initiative, in India and back in the U.S. Wish you a pleasant & safe journey back home.
May you touch many more lives.

Thank you.

Warmly,
Ramabhadran
